getaway

After Diwali, we needed a break and took off to the other side of the enormous valley we overlook to a place called Kaffer. It was nice to get away from home for a night and the town itself was really quiet and cute. It sits atop a 6000' ridge and has gorgeous views of the mountains to the north.
The hill we live on is in the forefront of the picture. We're smack dab in the middle (well, slightly to the left of center) of it. The mountains are in Sikkim, the tiny Indian state about 40 minutes to the north of us, and Tibet, which still needs to be freed I've heard.

Well, all I can say is I am jealous. Hope your adventure becomes even more eye-opening then I am sure it has already been. The pics and stories are great and keep me entertained in my cube, staring at the wall. Not missing much here. It snowed for the 1st time last Saturday...yes, that means people are already boarding and doing that strange thing on two thin sticks (I think they call it skiing) up at Smuggs and elsewhere (4 ft in some places), however, in true New England fashion, it has been about 65 degrees since then. Who knows, maybe tomorrow we will get a blizzard. So, as you two plan your next crazy adventure, I'll be keeping my eye on the sky. Have fun, be safe!

Well Courtney, if you must know, we do work and evidence of the that "work" will soon come your way in the form of stellar questions and colored pencil drawings of "jungles with fruit". I hope your troops can reciprocate the hard hitting, introspective queries like "how many years have you", and "what is your father's name".
BTW, one of the cutest students is writing to you. His name is Samip and he likes cricket.

this blog spot is unbelievable. ive never believed in blogs before, and how the word 'blog' thinks its the new 'google.' this i never approved of. i now firmly believe blogs should be saved for boyfriends of friends in india, to communicate with back homers, and share news of soon to come letters. and matt, you wont get to read my kids letters because theyll probably write back after you leave, but that just means youll have to come visit the monsters yourself upon your return. give a lesson on india. give a lesson on blog spots. they're incredible these nyc 8 year olds. happy blogging.
